Royal Liverpool Hospital
This project had a £70,000 waterproofing specification, the team at the branch played an active role with the internal sales executive making regular site visits, alongside the chosen suppliers and SIG CAs’ Waterproofing Business Development Manager, to provide technical support.
SIG CA supplied 6000L Toughseal, a solvent free polymer modified two-pack epoxy waterproof coating. This product was chosen as it is a paint-on material, which makes it much easier to apply than sheet tanking and offers a gas proof membrane, as well as waterproofing capabilities.
As the products supplied on this package were mainly ex-stock, this meant we could offer an ‘on demand’ service and deliver the products as and when required. We made deliveries once a week and these had to be on site by 7.30am due to limited space.
Westgate Shopping Centre in Oxford
The waterproofing products were used to seal the basement car park’s concrete slab and reinforced concrete walls. For this project SikaProof A12 was used to seal the basement car park raft slab and the concrete walls and was treated with SikaProof A8. In total over 30,000m2 of concrete was treated with SikaProof.
As the site is located next to a river, a complete tanking system was installed, which is why Waterman’s, the London based engineers for this project, approved the use of SikaProof due its prevention of lateral water movement.
As this is a high profile project in the heart of a busy city centre the team had to plan to hold stock in our warehouse and deliver the materials intermittently to ensure they meet the demands of the teams on site.
Prestigious new Headquarters in Cardiff
As the location of the development is so close to the River Taff that flows through Cardiff, specialist waterproofing materials were needed for the basement of the development, which is below the water table.
The team at SIG Construction Accessories Cardiff, supplied a range of waterproofing materials for an area in the region of 100,000m2 in the basement and sub-basement levels of the development. Due to strong relationships with the contractors and suppliers, and experience of supplying waterproofing to similar projects, the team decided it would be beneficial for both ourselves and the supplier to meet with the contractor to discuss the best solution, which led to the supply of Sikaproof A08, Sikaswell 2010, Skikaswell S-2 and Sikadur 31, along with general groundworks materials to site.
Before work began on the project the team at Cardiff had a meeting with the project manager of the build to go through the drawings to work out a stock profile and split the job into sections to make calling off the materials easier.
The team visited the site regularly to ensure there were no problems with the deliveries and to keep on top of the stock. As such large quantities of stock were needed, deliveries had to be made intermittently, taking into account that the site is in the centre of Cardiff so drop off space was limited.
